Invergordon
Invergordon is a grain distillery located in Scotland's Highland region and was a significant break from tradition when it opened in 1961, with grain whisky production previously being a reserve of the Lowlands. The site was selected due to its ready access to cereal crops, its nearby port and proximity to the malt distilleries of Glenmorangie and Dalmore.
The distillery owner, Invergordon Distillers, was acquired by Whyte & Mackay in 1993 and the distillery is primarily engaged in the provision of fillings for its numerous blends.
Unusually for a grain distillery, an Invergordon single grain brand was marketed for a brief period in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was available in both a 10- and a 12-year-old age statement, with a 7-year-old also produced for the brand's Italian distributor, D&C. Distinct in its use of diamond-shaped labels and pin-stripe details, there were also some releases within The Stillman's Dram series.
The Invergordon range was phased out following the distillery's acquisition by Whyte & Mackay in 1993. Only two distillery bottlings have been produced since, a 50th anniversary release in 2011 and a 60th anniversary bottling in 2021. Both were packaged with very different brand imagery.
