Hawker Siddeley Group
Hawker Siddeley Group Ltd is a British company, currently a non-trading subsidiary of the French multinational, Schneider Electric. It was originally founded as the Hawker Siddeley Aircraft Co in 1935 and became one of the most important aviation companies during the second world war, notably designing the Hawker Hurricane and Submarine Spitfire planes famously used by the RAF.
The company diversified in the post-war period and in 1977 it acquired the Cartlon Industries arm of London Merchant Securities PLC. With this came its subsidiary, Invergordon Distillers, and its portfolio of Scotch whisky holdings. It owned the company until 1988 when it agreed to a management buy-out organised by Dr. Chris Greig and Charles Craig.
