Deanston

Single malt whisky from Deanston has appeared in a number of guises over the years, with the first bottlings briefly released under the Old Bannockburn brand name in the early 1970s. Confusingly, Deanston Distillers Ltd (at the time still a Brodie Hepburn subsidiary) also released blended malts under the same name.

After the acquisition of the distillery by Invergordon Distillers in 1972, the Deanston Malt brand was launched two years later. It was available in both an 8-year-old and non-age statement bottling, as was an unusual alternative version called Deanston Mill, which was only sold in Italy and also offered a 5-year-old. In addition to their names, they were also labelled with slightly different aesthetics. 

When Deanston was sold to Burn Stewart in 1990 and subsequently re-opened, its single malt brand was relaunched and for the first time was known simply by the distillery name. This has remained the case ever since, with redesigns of the label and bottle shape in 2009 and again in 2015 to reach the image it has today. Its core range is headlined by the same 12-year-old age statement first released in the 1990s, now bottled at the signature ABV of the Distell Group portfolio, 46.3%. It is joined by an 18-year-old and two non-age statements called Kentucky Cask Matured and Virgin Oak.
