London Merchant Securities
Founded
1873
Headquarters
London, England
London Merchant Securities is a subsidiary of Derwent London PLC and is a provider of property investment and development services. It was originally established as the London & Hanseatic Bank in 1873, becoming the London Merchant Bank in 1916 and adopting its current name in 1939.
Unusually, the company briefly had some Scotch whisky interests while under the ownership of Max Rayne. It acquired a 76% stake in Invergordon Distillers when it was floated on the stock exchange in 1965. It then became a subsidiary of its Carlton Industries arm which was sold to the Hawker Siddeley Group in 1977.
