Dalmore
Dalmore is a malt distillery located just outside the town of Alness in the Highland region of Scotland. It was built in 1839 by Alexander Matheson before being sold to the Mackenzie family in the later 19th century.
It has been owned since 2014 by the Philippines-based Alliance Global Group through its Whyte & Mackay Scotch whisky division. Dalmore was acquired by the latter in 1960 and continues to be a key components of the company's blends, as well as being marketed as a prestige single malt brand.
The Dalmore single malt brand first appeared in the 1950s and was produced under license by Duncan MacBeth & Co, a blending a bottling operation established by the MacKenzie family and sister-business to its operations at Dalmore. Their name was later replaced on the labels by Mackenzie Brothers, Dalmore Ltd in the 1970s, and over the course of this period bottlings in 8-, 10-, 12- and 20-year-old age statements were released.
In 1976, Mackenzie Brothers was renamed Whyte & Mackay Distillers. The Dalmore brand was subsequently relaunched with a new label style and made use of the same bottle design as the company's blends, featuring stout, thick-necked shape with large plastic screw-caps. By this point the sole expression was a 12-year-old, which remained the status quo until 2002.
The current shape was introduced in the late 1990s, with label redesigns in 2007 and 2009 bringing it up to its modern day aesthetic. The current core range is referred to as The Principal Collection, and comprises 12-, 15-, 18- and 21-year old, Cigar Malt Reserve, Port Wood Reserve and King Alexander III. These are supported by a travel retail-only range and regular, highly-premium limited editions.
