Mackenzie Brothers
Mackenzie Brothers was a Scotch whisky company first established in 1867 in order to acquire the lease for the Dalmore malt distillery in Alness. Its founders were Andrew and Charles Mackenzie, who were joined by a third brother, William, in 1881. The company eventually went on to own Dalmore outright and it was officially incorporated as Mackenzie Brothers, Dalmore Ltd in 1927 upon the instruction of Andrew's will of 1922.
Although Andrew Mackenzie was an initial detractor of blended whiskies, the 20th century was a new era for Scotch and by 1914 the bulk of its production was sold to other blending companies. One of these was Whyte & Mackay, with whom the company merged in 1960 to become Dalmore, Whyte & Mackay Ltd. The original business was retained as a subsidiary, eventually being renamed White & Mackay Distillers in 1976.
