Pappy Van Winkle
Pappy Van Winkle is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon brand, owned by the Van Winkle Whiskey Company and produced for it and distributed by the Buffalo Trace distillery. It was originally introduced in 1994 by Julian Van Winkle III, and is named after his now legendary grandfather, Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle Snr.
Most early versions of the brand were produced using bourbon from the Stitzel-Weller distillery in Shively, with its closure in 1992 necessitating the switch to Buffalo Trace. The first age statement to be introduced was the 20-year-old, joined by the 23- and 15-year-olds in 1998 and 2004, respectively.
