Commonwealth Distillery Co
Founded
1983
Company type
Independent Bottler
Old Commonwealth Distillery Co was an independent warehouse and bottling company in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. It was established in 1983 by Julian Van Winkle III and operated out of the defunct Hoffman distillery buildings.
Hugely significant, the company is responsible for originally bottling some of the most sought-after names in American whiskey. Among these include Pappy Van Winkle, Very Olde St. Nick and the A.H. Hirsch Reserve. It was eventually dissolved after Van Winkle entered an alternative production and distribution agreement for his brands with Buffalo Trace distillery in 2002.
