Canadian Mist
Canadian Mist is large distillery located in the Ontario town of Collingwood. It was built in 1967 by Kentucky-based Barton Brands Inc through a subsidiary called Canadian Mist Distillers Ltd. It was sold to Brown-Foreman in 1971 and again to the Sazerac Company in 2020.
Whisky at Canadian Mist is produced using continuous distillation from a mash bill of corn, rye and malted barley. In addition to its eponymous brand, it is also the production home of the Collingwood label.
When it debuted in 1967, the distillery's eponymous brand name was known as Barton's Canadian Mist, a title it retained for only a few years until it was acquired by the Brown-Foreman Corporation. That was in 1971, and its name has been Canadian Mist ever since.
The brand is a triple-distilled, blended Canadian whisky produced using a mash bill of Alberta rye and Ontario corn and malted barley. Its portfolio has always been fairly straightforward and it is today available as a single 80 proof expression.
