Suntory Holdings
Suntory Holdings Ltd is a Japanese multinational and one of the most influential companies in the global wine and spirits industries. The company was founded in 1899 by Shinjirō Torii as a shop in Osaka called Torii Shoten, eventually becoming Suntory Ltd in 1963. It was renamed Suntory Holdings following a corporate restructuring in 2009 and its global whisky interests are now managed through its Suntory Spirits and Beam Suntory Divisions.
Through Suntory Spirits the company owns the Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries in Japan, while Beam Suntory manages its portfolio of producers and brands in Scotland, Ireland and North America. The Suntory Group also owns wineries alongside a variety of other subsidiaries interests in other business sectors.
