Chita
The Chita grain distillery was opened in 1972 and was second to be built in Japan by Suntory. Previously the company's malt and grain had been produced at Yamazaki, however Chita was tasked with sole responsibility for the latter during the company’s expansions that decade, which saw its second malt distillery, Hakushu, opened the following year.
Although it is primarily tasked with the provision of Suntory's blended Japanese whisky brands, some casks of Chita single grain are reserved for bottling unblended.
While a small number of limited edition bottlings of Chita single grain were released prior, there was not permanently marketed Chita single grain brand from Suntory until 2015. As with the company's other distilleries it is packaged and branded using a single Suntory Whisky theme, differing only in its colour scheme from the Yamazaki and Hakushu single malts.
Only a single core range expression is produced, known as the Distiller's Reserve.
