Eigashima
Eigashima is a malt whisky distillery located near the Seto Inland Sea in the Hyogo prefecture of Japan. It is owned by Eigashima Shuzo Co, a historic sake producer that first obtained a license to distil whisky in 1919. Under the direction of Mikio Hiraishi, the company placed a renewed focus on whisky in the late 20th century, opening what was originally White Oak distillery in 1984, later renaming it Eigashima in 2019.
The distillery produces single malt whisky using barely imported from Scotland, and has a varied wood policy. Its spirit is bottled and marketed in both single malt and blended format under the same brand name, Akashi.
