Eigashima Shuzo Co
Eigashima Shuzo Co is a historic Japanese spirits company, originally established as a sake producer by Hyokichi Urabe in 1888. An innovative company, it was the first to sell sake in glass bottles in 1899, and obtained its first distilling license in 1919, after which it introduced Shiratama shochu, Shiratama mirin, White Oak whisky, and Charmant brandy. Despite this, it was not until the 1960s, under the guidance of Mikio Hiraishi that the company made serious advances in the whisky industry.
The company opened the Eigashima (formerly White Oak) distillery in 1984, from which it markets single malt and blends under the Akashi brand name. It also owns the Yamanashi and Charmant wineries, and Oita shochu distillery in addition to its seven sake storehouses.
