The Barton 1792 distillery is a historic Kentucky site and is currently part of the American whiskey holdings of New Orleans-based company, Sazerac. Its current name was adopted in 2009 and is derived from a combination of its former title - it was called Barton from 1944 to 2008 - and its flagship bourbon brand, 1792.
The 1792 label was introduced in 2002 and is one of many brands associated with the distillery. Most notable among the others are names like Very Old Barton, Kentucky Gentleman, Tom Moore, and Kentucky Tavern.
