Kanosuke
Kanosuke is a modern Japanese malt whisky distillery. It was founded in 2017 by Komasa Jyozo Co, a historic producer of shochu and other Japanese spirits since 1883. The company owns the distillery through a subsidiary called Komasa Kanosuke Distillery Co, established in 2021 with a minority stake sold to Diageo.
Located along the Fukiagehama Beach in the Kagoshima Prefecture, the distillery operates three pot stills with different neck shapes and lyne arm angles. This allows it to produce a variety of single malt styles by redistilling in different stills or blending the new make spirits together.
The Kanosuke brand was introduced in 2018 when the distillery first began selling its New Pot and New Born ranges of unaged and aged single malt spirit. Its debut single malt whisky release followed in 2021 with the release of its 2021 First Edition, a 3-year-old, mixed-maturation blend of whiskies from all three of the distillery's pot stills.
The release was followed by the 2021 Second Edition, 2022 Limited Edition and a range of single cask bottlings. As yet, no permanent core range has been introduced.
