Glendullan is a powerhouse Speyside malt distillery, primarily tasked with providing fillings for the various blended Scotch brands of its owner, Diageo. It was built by a blender, William Williams & Sons in 1897, which merged first with Macdonald Greenlees in 1919 and in turn with the Distillers Company in 1925. Under their ownership Glendullan is notable for having at one point been run as two distilleries in tandem, with a new site built in 1972 and the original remaining in operation until 1985.

Despite its importance to blenders, some official bottlings of its single malt have been produced. It is currently one of three distilleries that contribute to Diageo's The Singleton brand.

After being acquired by the Distillers Company in 1925, Macdonald Greenless continued to operate as part of its group and was assigned the license to continue distilling at Glendullan. Despite playing an important role in its Grand Old Parr and Sandy Macdonald blends, the company opted to begin marketing the Glendullan single malt brand in the 1970s. The brand offered a sole 12-year-old as its proprietary expression.

Macdonald Greenlees ceased trading under the ownership of United Distillers, however it opted to continue selling Glendullan, briefly relaunching the brand in the early 1990s with a new 8-year-old. It was quickly discontinued however, marking the last time the distillery would be marketed as its own unique label.

The distillery was promptly packaged as part of the Flora & Fauna collection until 2007 when it was introduced as part of The Singleton brand. It currently makes up the American market core range in the form of a 12-, 15- and 18-year-old, however certain limited editions have domestic and wider global distribution.
