Ben Nevis
Ben Nevis is a malt distillery located in the Highland region of Scotland. Since 1989 it has been owned by the Nikka Whisky Distilling Co of Japan, itself part of the Asahi Group.
Although it exclusively produces single malt today, the distillery dabbled in grain whisky production between 1955 and 1984, even producing rare examples of single blended Scotch by mixing the two before filling to cask. Prior to regulation changes in 2021, a good deal of Ben Nevis malt and grain was also exported bottled as Japanese whisky for Nikka blends.
The first publicly available Ben Nevis-branded single malt bottlings first appeared in the early 1990s, shortly after the distillery's acquisition by the Nikka Whisky Distilling Co of Japan. The earliest releases were predominantly well-aged single casks and small batch releases, before the introduction of the long-serving 10-year-old in 1996.
The current iteration of the Ben Nevis brand was introduced in August 2021 and the core range is till spearheaded by the 10-year-old expression alongside a non-age statement release called Coire Leis.
