Ailsa Bay
Located within William Grant & Sons' Girvan grain complex, Ailsa Bay is a single malt distillery built in 2007. It occupies the site of the company's former Ladyburn distillery.
A versatile operation, the distillery predominantly produces a Balvenie-like spirit for the provision of the Grant's blended Scotch brands, but also distils are range of spirits with estery, nutty, fruity and heavily-peated flavour profiles.
Although the driving influence behind the return of malt distillery at Girvan was the need to reduce the demand for Glenfiddich and Balvenie to provide for the Grant's blends, like Ladyburn before it the Ailsa Bay distillery has its own market presence.
The Ailsa Bay single malt brand debuted in February 2016 with the first of its pioneering micro-maturation releases. A follow-up release was introduced in 2018 called Sweet Smoke.
