Seager Evans & Co
Seager Evans & Co was a gin distilling business founded in London in 1805. It broke into the Scotch whisky industry in 1927 by constructing the Strathclyde grain distillery and was acquired by Schenley Industries in 1956. The American company traded it back to British hands in the shape of the Whitbread group in 1975, who eventually renamed it Long John International in 1988.
Through its Scottish Grain Distilling Company subsidiary - later named Long John Distilleries - the company produced its flagship Long John blend and managed a portfolio of distilleries that over the years included Strathclyde, Ben Nevis, Kinclaith, Laphroaig and Tormore.
