John Power & Son is a subsidiary of the Irish Distillers group and ultimately part of the holdings of French multinational, Pernod Ricard. The company was organised in 1809 in order to manage and operate the business started by James Power in 1791, and opened its historic distillery on John's Labe in Dublin at the same time. Economic pressures in the 20th century eventually saw it merged with former rivals, John Jameson & Son and Cork Distilleries.
John Power & Son was one of the first Irish companies to begin selling its whiskey by the bottle, and its Powers brand remains a key part of the Irish Distillers portfolio today.
