D Antonia A Ferreira Garrafeira 1834 Vinho Porto

One of the famous vintages from the nineteenth century.

This vintage is linked to the Ferreira family; In October 1834 Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira marries the son namesake António Bernardo Ferreira in Chapel Farm Travassos in Loureiro. Both only children, the couple were to inherit the concentrated wealth of the two strongest branches of the family, a fact that would prove decisive to consolidate, under the name of D. Antonia.  This would evolve into the World famous port producing Ferriera empire.

his wine was the protagonist of a dramatic but fascinating episode: in 1887, the Swedish explorer Auguste Andrée, along with two companions, decided to cross the North Pole in a balloon. On 14 July, the balloon fell to the Arctic, amazingly they survived and the they made a feast in a floating ice sheet. The main course was yummy seagull breast, alongside abottle of Vintage Port \"D. Antonia Ferreira \"1834 which had been offered by the King of Sweden. Unfortunately, the adventurers did not survive to tell his experience but a Norwegian expedition found, 33 years later, their bodies and, diaries and some photographic material.

In October 1834 Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira marries the son namesake António Bernardo Ferreira in Chapel Farm Travassos in Loureiro. Both only children, the couple were to inherit and to concentrate the wealth of the two strongest branches of the family, a fact that would prove decisive to consolidate, under the direction of D. Antonia later, one who would become the Ferreira empire.

Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch #6 75cl (US Import)

From the distillery website the Balvenie Tun 1401, Batch 6 is a skillful marriage of some of the rarest treasures from the distillery’s Warehouse 24 – an unrepeatable selection of spirits sourced from seven traditional whisky casks and two sherry butts, whose ages span a number of decades, and which have all been hand-selected by Malt Master David Stewart. The whisky was rested for several months in Tun 1401 – The Balvenie’s traditional oak marrying vessel – to create a single malt that enhances its already precious parts.

The expression has been exclusively created for the U.S. market, and follows the hugely successful Batch 3, which was released in 2011. In 2013, Batch 9 was also introduced especially for the U.S. market.

Please note this is at 75cl bottle.

From the distillery website, this was inspired by and produced in one of the oldest warehouses at our distillery, Batch 9 is a skillful marriage of some of the rarest treasures from Warehouse 24. It represents an unrepeatable selection of spirits sourced from eleven traditional whisky casks and three sherry butts, whose ages span a number of decades, and which have all been hand-selected by David Stewart. The whisky rested for several months in Tun 1401 – one of the distillery’s unique marrying vessels – to create a single malt that is greater than the sum of its already precious parts.

This expression was exclusively available in the U.S. market, and follows the hugely successful Batch 3 and Batch 6.
