Johnnie Walker The Directors Blend 2013

Only given to very important Diageo types meaning this was never available at retail. This means that very few bottles made it to the secondary market and collectors have fought to get hold of this essential part of Walker history.

There were six bottles in the Director's blend range, this is the final bottle and was designed by designed by Claessens, a simple yet elegant and effective design.

In the flavour department the blend is focused on age and succeeds in creating deep rich character, causing whisky expert Dave Broom to claim that it was one of the best whiskies of 2013.

A cask strength blend of a truly amazing age. Distilled in 1960, it was blended and decanted into fresh sherry butts in 1972 where it was left to rest and mature until 2008 when it was bottled by hand. Many of the malts that comprise this blend come from now silent distilleries.

This was named Blend of the Year in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2010.

John Jameson 12 Year Old Circa 1969 / JJ12

With one eye on warehouses full of aging stock, and another across the Atlantic to a United States of America set to repeal the Prohibition Act, a 12 Year Old Jameson was first bottled in 1932. This premium expression was distilled in the quintessential Irish style, from a mash of malted and unmalted cereals in traditional copper pots.

The first Jameson 12 blend represents a significant change in Irish distilling at the time, one that likely saved the industry. The Jameson, Powers and Cork distilling companies had banded together as irish Distillers in an effort to pool resources and capitalise on what was about to become a hugely expanded export market. Jameson was pushed as the poster boy and in an effort to appeal to international tastes at the time, the old Irish pot still whiskeys would henceforth become the modern blends that we recognise today.

Screw caps were used by Irish distillers for the first time in the early 1970's. This particular bottle has a cork closure, meaning it is one of the earliest blends. This particular blend is a marriage of both of Irelands great closed distilleries, Jameson's Bow Street, and Powers' John's Lane. The pure pot still content is from Bow Street, and the grain, since Jameson's did not have a patent still, came from John's Lane. There is some serious Irish distilling history captured in this bottle. We hear it doesn't taste too bad either!

Vale Royal Wedderburn Jamaican Rum Averys for Corti 9 Year Old 1970s / US Import

This is a truly special bottle. The terms Wedderburn and Vale Royal are both fairly obscure, though both are used to refer to specific, high ester rums particular to Jamaica.

Wedderburn rum was a classification of heavy rum that would usually be used to give weight and flavour to blended rums - much like malt or peated whisky in blends - and is rarely seen unblended.

The popular Jamaica rum Smith and Cross, for example, is a blend of Wedderburn, mellowed out with milder Plummer style rum.

Vale Royal on the other hand is generally used to connote rum produced in the 'style' of Vale Royal, the residence of the Prime Minister of Jamaica, which also housed a now defunct estate distillery.

There is speculation that the original Vale Royal stills are now situated at Long Pond and that this is where modern Vale Royal rum is produced.

Irrespective, not only is this is a phenomenally rare style of high ester, Jamaica rum, it is also one of a handful of bottles produced for Corti brothers in the 1970s, which are highly sought after and have a near cult like status amongst collectors and counnosures.
