Knockando

The Knockando single malt brand was introduced by Justerini & Brooks in 1971 with the introduction of the classic 12-year-old expression. Unusually for a core range release, each bottling of the age statement also included the distillation "season" and the year of bottling on the label. This has remained a key feature of the brand ever since and the 12-year-old was later joined by other age statements at 15-, 18- and 21-years-old. Some premium releases called Extra Old Reserve were also produced through the 1980s and 1990s in elegant square bottles.

The trademark vintage and bottling years were eventually removed from the labels in 2020, followed by a cull of the brand's core range. Nowadays it is once again only the 12-year-old that is the sole available product.

Knockando is unusual in that it is the only Diageo distillery today that retains its connection to a blending company as part of its branding. As such, it was immune to the rationalisation by United Distillers that saw most of its single malt brands shelved in the 1980s. It is never include in cross-company releases such as the annual Special Releases or premium Prima & Ultima collections, although it is available through the Diageo's Casks of Distinction programme.
