Jack Daniel Distillery
The Jack Daniel Distillery is the production home of the world-famous Jack Daniel's brand of Tennessee whisky. Despite claims to having been established in 1966, the current distillery traces its founding to 1875 when Jack Daniel leased a plot of land at Cave Hollow Spring near Lynchburg. At the time he shared the water supply with two other distilleries, Hiles & Berry and Tolley & Eaton. The former was the owner of the land, and Jack Daniel bought the full 142-acres from its trustee, Wilburn Hiles, in 1884.
The distillery was inherited by Daniel's nephew, Lem Motlow, in 1907, whose children then sold it to the Brown-Foreman Corporation in 1956, its current owner today. Lynchburg is famously located within the "dry" Moore County, meaning the distillery was unable to sell any bottles of its whiskey on-site until 1995 when the law was relaxed.
