Inchgower
Inchgower is a coastal malt distillery in the Speyside region, located just outside the town of Buckie. It was built in 1871 by the blending company, Alexander Wilson & Co, and then notably acquired by Arthur Bell & Sons in 1936. It then become a key component of the Bell's blends and remains in service to these as part of the Diageo portfolio today.
In fact, the distillery is so important to a number of Diageo blends brands that its single malt brand has not been available since the 1980s, with only a Flora & Fauna bottling permanently available.
As it did with all of the distilleries in its portfolio, Arthur Bell & Sons saw a value in offering its customers the single malt from Inchgower distillery. It introduced the brand in the 1970s, offering "A De Luxe" 12-year-old expression. This remained the sole age statement following a redesign of the Arthur Bell & Sons' single malt bands in the mid-1980s before being discontinued by United Distillers in 1987.
Instead, United Distillers packaged Inchgower within its Flora & Fauna range in 1991. A collection of 21 different single malt all branded in a single homogenous style, the 14-year-old Inchgower remains the only permanently available single malt from the distillery.
A unique Inchgower branding was devised in 2018 for the distillery's inclusion in that year's Diageo Special Releases range, however it has not subsequently been seen since.
