Green Brier
Green Brier is a Tennessee whiskey distillery located in Nashville. It is named after the flagship brand of whiskey produced by Charles Nelson in the 19th century and produced by a company of the same name, revived by his descendants in 2009. The distillery opened in 2014 and generated revenue by bottled sourced whiskey for its Belle Meade brand before beginning to release its own spirit in 2019.
Being a Tennessee whiskey distillery, Green Brier uses the Lincoln County Process, filtering their whiskey through sugar maple charcoal.
The Green Brier brand was first produced by Charles Nelson in 1860, becoming the nation's best-selling Tennessee whiskey by 1885. It was eventually trademarked in 1906 by his wife - Louisa Nelson - however the business was promptly shut down by the enactment of Prohibition three years later. It was over a century before the brand would be marketed again.
When the Green Brier distillery was revived by Charlie and Andy Nelson in 2014, the began setting down spirit distilled using the same recipe that their great-great-great-grandfather had used. The eponymous was brand was then returned to shelves in 2019.
The label is currently available as a single proprietary expression.
