Castle & Key is a modern American spirits producer, housed within the walls of the historic Old Taylor distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. It was originally built by Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr in 1887 and featured a faux-castle and sunken gardens on-site, and is considered the birthplace of bourbon tourism. It was closed in 1972 and fell into disrepair, eventually being acquired by Peristyle LLC in 2014, who restored it and re-opened it as Castle & Key in 2016.
The distillery produces a range of spirits in addition to its eponymous bourbon brand, including Restoration rye whiskey, Sacred Spring vodka and a number of different gins.
While the Castle & Key name had been present on several of its other spirits bottlings in the years prior, the flagship whiskey brand that it formally gives its name to was introduced in 2022 with the release of its first two batches of Kentucky straight bourbon. They were released in March and May that year and both were vattings of around 80 barrels of its 4-year-old spirit.
Two batches of its first wheated bourbon followed later that year.
