Loch Dhu
Loch Dhu is the infamous "black whisky" brand devised by United Distillers in 1996. It was bottled using single malt from Mannochore distillery and takes its name from the Gaelic for "black lake."
The whisky had caramel colourings added to achieve its unique aesthetic, however in its marketing it claimed this came from the use of double-charred oak barrels. The brand was only briefly produced and the trademark was relinquished by Diageo in 2003.
