Dufftown 1980 Signatory Vintage 17 Year Old Decanter 75cl / US Import

Signatory Vintage were established in 1988 by Andrew Symington and are one of Scotland's most prolific independent bottlers. Their offices and bottling facility are located next to Edradour distillery, which they have also owned since 2002.

This Dufftown was distilled in 1980 and bottled from sherry butt #3787. 

Dufftown was built in 1896, becoming part of the Arthur Bell & Sons portfolio in 1933. As with Blair Athol, Dufftown was regularly bottled as a single malt, despite its importance to the Bell's blends. When the company was bought by Guinness in 1985, these bottlings stopped, but a Dufftown distillery bottling returned in 1991 as part of United Distillers’ Flora & Fauna series, later becoming part of The Singleton stable. Prior to the construction of Roseisle, Dufftown was Diageo's largest distillery.

Dailuaine 1973 Rare Malts 22 Year Old 75cl / 60.92%

The Rare Malts Selection was a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005. As with the Flora & Fauna series, they were often from lesser-seen single malt distilleries.

Dailuaine was at a time in the 19th century, Speyside's largest distillery, and it was home to Scotland's first pagoda roofed kiln. That distillery perished in a fire however, in 1917. The newly rebuilt distillery was acquired by DCL (now Diageo) who used its \"meaty\" spirit as a filler for their many blends. As with most of the single malt operations in the Diageo portfolio, the Flora & Fauna release was Dailuaine's first ever distillery bottling. 

These Rare Malts Selection releases followed, and this 1973 vintage is one of the three.

A 30 year old blended Scotch whisky for the French market, presented in an elegant Baccarat crystal decanter.

Produced by the Dalaruan Distillery Company, named after the lost Campbeltown distillery.

The Authentic Collection is now the flagship Cadenhead brand, and one of the most recognisable independent labels on the market.

John Begg's Gold Cap circa 1920s

Gold Cap was a premium blend produced by John Begg, the founder and at this time, proprietor of Royal Lochnagar distillery. This was bottled around the 1920s, and bears the royal warrant of King George V, and a Betts & Co foil capsule, patented the decade previously. Lochnagar distillery's royal connections date back as far as Queen Victoria, who awarded it its first Royal Warrant after just three years of operation, in 1848.

John Begg has been acquired by John Dewar & Sons by the time this was produced, and was shortly to becoe part of the DCL fold, who's modern iteratiom, Diageo, still run Royal Lochnagar to this day.

Jack Daniel's '1914' Gold Medal Series 2001

Jack Daniel's is the best-selling American whiskey in the world. Despite that fact it can legally be categorised as a straight bourbon, it has always shunned this title, preferring to market itself as a Tennessee Whiskey. These are similar to straight bourbons but have the additional requirement of having been filtered through maple wood charcoal, a practice known as the Lincoln County Process. History has not always given the distillery an easy ride though. Tennessee was an early adopter of Prohibition in 1910, and one of the last to repeal it in 1938 (five years later than the repeal at Federal level). Even today the distillery is still located in a \"dry\" county, meaning none of its products are sold in its hometown or those around it. The distillery was then only operational for four years before being forced to close again during the second world war. Ten years later it was purchased by the Brown-Forman corporation and its fortunes turned for good. Its classic black-labelled Old No.7 brand (named after the distillery’s original DSP number) is now a globally recognised product.

This is a limited bottle of Jack Daniel's, released in 2001 as the fourth part of the Gold Medal Series, which celebrated each of those won buy the distillery.

This is the 1914 version, celebrating the medal won at the Anglo-American Exposition that year. Despite the state of Tennessee being an early adopter of Prohibition, Lem Motlow (Jack Daniel's nephew) still had high hopes for the distillery. His faith was rewarded by the batch he sent to competition in London that year.

Dalmore 1971 Glenhaven 23 Year Old 75cl / US Import

Dalmore is undoubtedly the prize single malt in the Whyte & Mackay portfolio. This was not always the case though. The blenders purchased it from the Mackenzie family in 1960, having been long-standing customers. Due to the long-running importance of it to their blends, their distillery bottlings of its single malt were limited to a 12 year old expression. Nowadays however, it is positioned as a luxury brand, rubbing shoulder with the likes of Macallan, and is globally recognised. Independent releases like this are hard to come by.

This is a particularly rare bottling, produced by the Glenhaven Scotch Whisky Co. for the US market.

Glenhaven was a short-lived independent bottler, mostly exporting their releases to America. Their bottlings appeared between 1994 and 1997, when their founder Bill Thompson sadly passed away, halting operations at the firm.

Dalmore 21 Year Old 75cl pre-2007 / US Import

Dalmore is undoubtedly the prize single malt in the Whyte & Mackay portfolio. This was not always the case though. The blenders purchased it from the Mackenzie family in 1960, having been long-standing customers. Due to the long-running importance of it to their blends, their distillery bottlings of its single malt were limited to a 12 year old expression. Nowadays however, it is positioned as a luxury brand, rubbing shoulder with the likes of Macallan, and is globally recognised. 

For many years the 12 year old was the sole constituent of the Dalmore core range. That changed in 2002 when this 21 year old was added alongside the Cigar Malt.

This version of the 21 year old was produced until 2007 when the core range was rebranded after United Spirits took over the reigns of Whyte & Mackay.

Dalmore 1976 Cadenhead's 19 Year Old 75cl / US Import

Nowadays however, it is positioned as a luxury brand, rubbing shoulder with the likes of Macallan, and is globally recognised. 

Introduced in 2002 alongside the 21 year old in the distillery's first expansion of its core range, this is a bottle of the the Dalmore Cigar Malt. It was devised by Whyte & Mackay master blended, Richard Paterson, as the ideal single malt companion to an after-dinner smoke. Presented here prior to the product being discontinued in 2009, although it would eventually return in the form of the Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve.

This is a 1969 vintage from Gordon & macPhail, aged for 15 years in cask.

The Connoisseurs Choice label is one of the most recognisable independent bottlings on the market. It was initially created for renowned Italian importer, Edoardo Giaccone in the early 1970s, but became a mainstay of the core Gordon & MacPhail portfolio in 1979.

Jameson 18 Year Old Master Selection 75cl / US Import

The solution was the creation of the Irish Distillers group, a merger between Jameson, Powers and Cork Distillers in 1966. Now a Pernod Ricard subsidiary, Irish Distillers continue to produce Jameson at the New Midleton distillery in Cork, built in 1975. Today it is best-selling Irish whiskey in the world.

This is the 18 year old Master Selection, bottled prior to its replacement by the Limited Reserve.

John Jameson 12 Year Old 1970s / Soffiantino Import

With one eye on warehouses full of ageing stock, and another across the Atlantic to a United States of America set to repeal the Prohibition Act, a 12 Year Old Jameson was first bottled in 1932. This premium expression was distilled in the quintessential Irish style, from a mash of malted and unmalted cereals in traditional copper pots.

The first Jameson 12 year old blend, like this one, represents a significant change in Irish distilling at the time, one that likely saved the industry. The Jameson, Powers and Cork distilling companies had banded together as Irish Distillers in an effort to pool resources and capitalise on what was about to become a hugely expanded export market. Jameson was pushed as the poster boy and in an effort to appeal to international tastes at the time, the old Irish pot still whiskeys would henceforth become the modern blends that we recognise today.

This particular blend is a marriage of both of Irelands great closed distilleries, Jameson's Bow Street, and Powers' John's Lane. The pure pot still content is from Bow Street, and the grain, since Jameson's did not have a patent still, came from John's Lane. There is some serious Irish distilling history captured in this bottle. We hear it doesn't taste too bad either!

Based on the glass stamp, this bottles dates to sometime in or just after 1977.

This particular 15 year old blend is a marriage of both of Irelands great closed distilleries, Jameson's Bow Street, and Powers' John's Lane. The pure pot still content is from Bow Street, and the grain, since Jameson's did not have a patent still, came from John's Lane. There is some serious Irish distilling history captured in this bottle.

Dalwhinnie 1981 Distillers Edition

Dalwhinnie was one of the six original Classic Malts when they were selected by DCL (now Diageo) back in 1988, and it was tipped to become the favourite among consumers on account of its flawless floral flavours and elegant character. Although eventually pipped at the post by the smoky dark horse that was the Lagavulin 16 year old, it remains a well-loved single malt. The distillery is both the highest and coldest in Scotland, contributing to its unique flavour through the rapid condensing that occurs in its worm tubs.  

Launched in 1997, the Distillers Edition range are cask finished variations on the Classic Malts. This is the second release of this double matured series from Dalwhinnie, and was finished in Oloroso cask wood.
