Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch #6

Aberlour A'Bunadh is bottled at cask strength in the tradition of 19th century single malts when villagers would come to the distillery to collect their dram straight from the cask, often in apothecary bottles obtained from the village chemist. John Jameson and Son's Redbreast 12 Year Old Miniature 1963 / Gilbey's

An old miniature bottle of Redbreast 12 year old Irish whiskey bottled by Gilbey's of Ireland Ltd.

The practice of merchant bottlings was common throughout Ireland and indeed, many of the most recognisable Irish whiskies today started out as such. Jameson in particular did not officially bottle their own whiskey until 1968, after the Irish Distillers merger with Powers and Cork Distillers. The then Dublin-based distillers offered their products only by the barrel, which is how this Gilbey's bottling came about.

Distilled at the closed Bow Street distillery which ceased production 1971 and now houses the Jameson visitor's centre.

We estimate this bottle to be from or slightly after 1969 based on the bottle press date.

No strength or capacity stated.

Aberlour A’Bunadh Batch #7

Aberlour A'Bunadh is produced in the tradition of 19th century single malts from an era when villagers would come to the distillery to collect their dram straight from the cask, often in apothecary bottles obtained from the village chemist. Indeed these bottles are the inspiration for the a`bunadh bottle shape today.

Matured exclusively in Spanish Oak Oloroso Sherry butts, the rarest and most precious casks used for maturation and bottled at cask strength, a`bunadh possesses an unrivalled aromatic intensity. A richer mouth fill and flavour complexity is achieved by bottling without the use of modern day chill filtering methods.
