Bowmore 22 Year Old The Gulls

Yet another of the many legends of Bowmore.

Back in the day, When the Scots traveled from their Celtic lands to create the Kingdom of Dalriada-in-Alban, the Pictish and Brythonic tribes who already lived in the lands resisted fiercely. Legend says that the daughter of a Pictish King fell in love with a captured Scottish warrior and helped him escape. Together they fled westwards to Islay. Rowing towards the young warrior's home on the shores of Loch Indaal, a terrible storm assaulted their boat, sending it crashing into the rocky coast line.

The young Scot's clansmen found only debris and no sign of the lovers - but a pair of white gulls soared and swooped together across the Loch, settling neither on the western nor the eastern shore, as if torn between the two.

... on the whisky front this is a 22 year old Bowmore presented in a stunning blue decanter with a stylish box.

Caol Ila 1980 Douglas Laing 38 Year Old / XOP

An independent Caol Ila, distilled in September 1980 and bottled in 2018 as a 38 year old.

Old Particular is Douglas Laing's flagship label, and was launched in 2013 after their Old Malt Cask series became part of the portfolio of the newly established Hunter Laing. Xtra Old Particular is the premium version of the brand, and is reserved for casks the company considers the Laing \"family jewels.\"

Classic Cask 1981 Single Batch 17 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon

A 1981 distilled Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled in 1998. 

The Classic Cask bottlers were bottled for a company called Spirit Imports by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers at their Willett distillery. KBD have barrels from all of the major Kentucky plants in their warehouses, however their most common source was neighbouring Heaven Hill.

Caroni 2000 Velier Single Cask 17 Year Old #R4002 Heavy Full Proof / Eataly

Established in 1923 on the site of the sugar factory for which it was named, Caroni was a key ingredient of British Navy rations, where it's famous high ester 'Heavy' rums help to make up the signature flavour. Sadly, with the decline of the Trinidadian sugar industry, the Islands distillers became more and more dependent upon imported molasses, making distilling less and less economical. The writing then, was already on the wall when in 2001 the Trinidadian government sold a 49% share in the holding company to Angostura. Caroni was shuttered in 2002 and a Behemoth of flavour was lost to the world.

Thankfully, in 2004, Luca Gargano discovered the ossuary of Caroni's warehouses filled of barrels of the legendary heavy rum quietly ageing. Since then we have seen a number of outstanding releases with collectors and drinkers alike seeking to acquire one of these coveted relics.

A full proof heavy Trinidad rum, distilled at the lost Caroni distillery and fully matured on the Caribbean island.

Distilled in 2000 and aged 17 years before being bottled from single cask #R4002 (imported from Trinidad by Velier).

One of only 242 bottles produced for Eataly.

A very well aged Ben Nevis, distilled on the 23rd June 1972 and aged in a sherry hogshead. 

Selected and bottled by Cask 88.

This bottle won a gold medal at the 2018 International Wine and Spirit Competition, with judges awarding it a score of 90-92.9.

Booker's 30th Anniversary Small Batch Bourbon

The Booker's brand is a subsidiary of Jim Beam and was named after former master distiller, Booker Noe. His son Fred is now the current master distiller and is on record as having said, \"if you’re drinking Booker’s, you better have your pajamas on!” Jim Beam have two distilleries in Kentucky where they produce their bourbon, but Booker's is the only brand produced exclusively at one of them; the Boston Road plant, now also known as the Booker Noe distillery.

This special release commemorates the brand's 30th anniversary and is a vatting of 70% 2009 vintage 9 year old bourbon, and 30% 16 year old bourbon distilled in 2002.

Brora 1974 Wilson and Morgan 27 Year Old / Anniversary Selection

An older independently bottled Brora, distilled in 1974 and bottled in Edinburgh in 2002 for Wilson & Morgan. Closed since 1983, these old vintage bottlings of Brora are very sought after, especially single casks.

Wilson & Morgan was founded in Italy in 1992 by Fabio Rossi, the son of prolific importer Mario Rossi Jr, who began distributing Scotch whisky back in the 1960s. His son’s company was one of  a new generation of Italian bottlers established in the 1990s, which aimed to replicate the successes of predecessors like Samaroli and Moon Import.

This 2002 bottling is an Anniversary Selection release to commemorate their 20th year.

Convalmore 1984 Cask Strength 32 Year Old

A cask strength bottling of Convalmore, one of Diageo's special releases for 2017.

Distilled in 1984 and bottled at cask strength 32 years later.

Caol Ila 1984 Signatory Vintage 29 Year Old / TWE

This Caol Ila was distilled on 17th April 1984 and matured in refill sherry hogshead #2758. 

Bottled for The Whisky Exchange by Signatory Vintage on 23rd September 2013.

Bunnahabhain 1967 Duncan Taylor 38 Year Old

Duncan Taylor was founded in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask broker and trading company. Its modern history began in 2001 when a former Glendronach employee, Euan Shand, purchased the firm and moved it to Huntly in Aberdeenshire, using the impressive cask portfolio it has amassed over the 20th century to become one of the premier independent bottlers in Scotland.

This Bunnahabhain was distilled in March 1967 and matured in cask #3335 until November 2005.

Crabbie 30 Year Old Single Cask

While we wait for the new Crabbie Distillery to open in Leith, the company behind the venture have released this sumptuous 30 year old single cask bottling from an undisclosed Speyside distillery. 

Limited to 330 bottles, there are rumours that this is from Macallan - could the still-sealed envelope reveal its true identity? 

Banff 1975 Duncan Taylor 35 Year Old 75cl / US Import

Distilled in November 1975 and bottled in March 2011 by Duncan Taylor, this Banff is bottle number 180 of 289 and was bottled from cask #3350.

Part of Duncan Taylor's Rarest of the Rare series which bottles whisky from closed distilleries.

This Bunnahabhain was distilled in December 1968 and matured in cask #11571. 

Bottled in December 2006 by Duncan Taylor as part of their Rare Auld range, this is bottle number 13 of 150. 

Bowmore 1992 Kingsbury 25 Year Old / Sar Obair

A very limited Bowmore, distilled in 1992 and presented in an attractive decanter at 25 years of age by Kingsbury. 

Kingsbury are Japan's most sought after independent bottler. They were founded in 1989 by Eaglesome, the high-end deli in Campbeltown that was purchased by J & A Mitchell & Co of Springbank distillery, and turned into one of the region's finest whisky merchants. They initially bottled Kingsbury's exclusively for the Japanese market using their Cadenhead's stock, before the label was acquired by native firm, the Japanese Import System. They have released a number of some of the most collectible whiskies, including a Bowmore 1966, and two dark sherry casked Ardbeg.
