John Jameson and Son 10 Year Old circa 1930s/40s / W A Scott

An old bottle of Jameson 10 year old Irish whiskey, bottled by W.A. Scott of O'Curry Street, Kilkee. There's a still a Scott's Bar in the same location today.

The practice of merchant bottlings was common throughout Ireland and indeed, many of the most recognisable Irish whiskies today started out as such. Jameson in particular did not officially bottle their own whiskey until 1968, after the Irish Distillers merger with Powers and Cork Distillers. The then Dublin-based distillers offered their products only by the barrel, which is how this bottling came about.

Distilled at the closed Bow Street distillery which ceased production 1971 and now houses the Jameson visitor's centre.

We estimate this bottle to be from around the 1950s, but it may be older.

No strength or capacity stated.

John Jameson and Son 10 Year Old circa 1936 / A Millar & Co

An old bottle of Jameson 10 year old Irish whiskey, bottled by Adam Millar & Co. in what appears to have been around the 1930s, or possibly earlier. Adam Millar established a distillery at 10-13 Thomas Street in Dublin's Liberties in the 1890s, and despite competition from the much larger Roe distillery across the road, operated until the mid-20th century. The Dublin Civic Trust Thomas Street Study in 2001 however found that wine was being produced on the still these until the late 1970s. The Millars whiskey brand was revived by Cooley distillery in the 1980s.

The practice of merchant bottlings was common throughout Ireland and indeed, many of the most recognisable Irish whiskies today started out as such. Jameson in particular did not officially bottle their own whiskey until 1968, after the Irish Distillers merger with Powers and Cork Distillers. Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 Year Old 1930s / US Import

A very old bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label. The bottle carries the royal warrant of the late King George V which we believe dates the bottle to between 1936 and 1939. The bottle is certainly no later than 1945, when the US tax strip was updated to includes the phrase 'Series 111' across the centre.

Four Roses Rye Half Pint 1940s

Four Roses is a pre-prohibition brand, originally created by the Paul Jones company. They purchased Frankfort Distillery during Prohibition and traded under their name in order to use the medicinal license the distillery held in order to keep bottling the Four Roses brand. Frankfort Distilleries was then acquired by Seagram following the repeal of Prohibition, one of the \"big four\" whiskey companies who consolidated the majority of the market in the 1930s and 1940s.

Seagram preferred to promote their own products as the American whiskey of choice, namely Seven Crown, and bottled straight Four Roses only for export markets and restirciting the US to blends. This is a blended rye from the early 1940s, and is comprised of 51% straight rye whiskey.

Blended at the Seagram plant in Baltimore, MD.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare 2nd Edition / Port Ellen

A limited release of Johnnie Walker's most premium brand. The Ghost and Rare blends will focus on Scotland's lost and sorely missed distilleries, with this second release built around malt from the legendary Port Ellen. Other \"Ghosts\" rearing their welcome heads from the annals of whisky history is grain from lost Carsebridge and Caledonian.

Given that Brora shut its doors in 1983, we're talking about whisky that was distilled at least 35 years ago!

Speaking of the Ghost and Rare series, master blender Jim Beveridge had the following to say:

“Whiskies from these ghost distilleries are becoming increasingly rare. From our library of irreplaceable casks that we keep exclusively for Johnnie Walker Blue Label, I've chosen a few uniquely full-bodied expressions of these precious malts and grains to let people explore, in a new way, the extraordinary richness found in our pinnacle whisky.”

John Jameson 12 Year Old 1970s

With one eye on warehouses full of aging stock, and another across the Atlantic to a United States of America set to repeal the Prohibition Act, a 12 Year Old Jameson was first bottled in 1932. This premium expression was distilled in the quintessential Irish style, from a mash of malted and unmalted cereals in traditional copper pots.

The first Jameson 12 blend represents a significant change in Irish distilling at the time, one that likely saved the industry. The Jameson, Powers and Cork distilling companies had banded together as Irish Distillers in an effort to pool resources and capitalise on what was about to become a hugely expanded export market. Jameson was pushed as the poster boy and in an effort to appeal to international tastes at the time, the old Irish pot still whiskeys would henceforth become the modern blends that we recognise today.

This particular blend is a marriage of both of Irelands great closed distilleries, Jameson's Bow Street, and Powers' John's Lane. The pure pot still content is from Bow Street, and the grain, since Jameson's did not have a patent still, came from John's Lane. There is some serious Irish distilling history captured in this bottle. We hear it doesn't taste too bad either!

Based on the glass stamp, this bottles dates to sometime in or just after 1974.
