Chateau Lafite-Rothschild 1962 / Leaking

From the Paulliac Appellation in the Haute-Medoc sub-region on the left-bank of the Bordeaux. Hugh Johnson (Master of Wine) has said, \"If one had to single out one commune of Bordeaux to head the list, there would be no argument. It would be Pauillac.\"

Of the wines of Paulliac, Lafite-Rothschild is arguably one of the most sought after. Their vineyards are planted to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot with an average vine age of close to 40 years.

Chateau Ausone Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 1970

Situated on the right bank of the Bordeaux, the Saint-Emilion Appellation is possibly the oldest active wine producing appellation in the Bordeaux region with a history that dates back to the times of the ancient Romans. Indeed some suggest Chateau Ausone, may be the original Lucaniac villa dating back to the fourth century which  belonged to the famed Roman poet Ausonius. If you go to the lower portion of the Bordeaux wine estate, you can find numerous archaeological remains of an ancient Roman villa. Among the ruins, can be found mosaics that show the estate was known as “La Villa du Palat.” Regardless of where the poet planted his Bordeaux wine vineyards, Ausone has been produced for close to 4 centuries under the name honoring Ausonius.

Chateau Ausone also has some of the oldest vines in St. Emilion with oldest having been planted in 1906. The St. Emilion vineyard of Chateau Ausone is, today, planted to 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot and aproximatly reflects the percentage make up of the wine.

Bidding advice

You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.

Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum. If someone bids above your set limit, we’ll notify you by email so you can choose whether to increase your bid.

Placing a Single Bid
Alternatively, place a single bid by selecting the button on the right side of the bidding panel. The button displays the amount needed for the next increment. For example, if the current highest bid is £50.00, the button will show "+ £55.00" (reflecting a £5.00 increment).
