Kininvie
Kininvie is a William Grant & Sons malt distillery, located in Speyside on the same property as Balvenie. It was built in 1990 to ease pressure on the demand for Glenfiddich and Balvenie to provide fillings for the company's blends, and allow those distilleries to focus on their single malt brands. Kininvie malt is now a key component in the popular Grant's and Monkey Shoulder blends.
The distillery is also home to the Kininvie Works experimental arm of William Grant & Sons, some of the fruits of which have been bottled over the years in addition to occasional releases of its single malt.
The first official bottlings of Kininvie single malt were released by William Grant & Sons in 2006 when a 15-year-old was bottled for its Hazelwood brand. The Kininvie brand itself was not introduced until much later, in 2013. Only marketed for two years, a selection of batches of 1990, 1991 and 1996 vintages were available only in half-size 35cl and 37.5cl bottles. Three single cask 1990 vintages were also released in 2015, titled The First Drops.
The Kininvie brand was not seen again until 2019 when the distillery released three experimental whiskies from its Kininvie Works arm. These were a triple-distilled single malt, a malted rye-recipe single grain and single blend.
