Glengyle
Glengyle is a malt distillery in Campbeltown, originally built in 1872 and operational until 1925 when it became one of many in the region to close its doors. When the buildings were bought by J&A Mitchell & Co in 2000 they were no more than shells, and the company spent the next four years renovating the site and installing new equipment that included stills acquired from Ben Wyvis. Production began in 2004 as the revived distillery became the first new producer of the 21t century.
Prior to its acquisition by J&A Mitchell, the distillery had been owned by the blending company, Bloch Brothers, who had also owned the neighbouring Glen Scotia. As a result, the Glengyle trademark had been inherited by Loch Lomond Distillers and the distillery's single malt was launched under the Kilkerran brand name instead.
