Glengoyne is a Highland malt distillery located in Dumgoyne, a small village in the Campsie Fells to the north of Glasgow. It was founded in 1833 as Burnfoot distillery, later being renamed Glen Guin by the Lang Brothers after they acquired it in 1876, which was anglicised to Glengoyne in 1905.

The distillery was synonymous with Lang Brothers and its blends for over a century, operating as a subsidiary of Robertson & Baxter since 1965. When its ownership was reorganised as the Edrington Group in 1999, the distillery was deemed surplus to requirements and sold to Ian Macleod Distillers. Under their watch it has been nurtured into a best-selling single malt brand.

Lang Brothers first started to sell Glengoyne single malt in the 1960s, originally marketing a 10-year-old before replacing it with the 8-year-old that was the proprietary age statement throughout the subsequent decade. The original plain white labels were replaced by black and gold ones in the 1970s, which were refined in terms of their design in its later years.

In the 1980s the 8-year-old was replaced by a 10-year-old in new beige packaging, joined by by a 15-year-old in a Kiln-shaped decanter. A brand overhaul at the end of the decade switched back to black and gold labelling with a 12-year-old as its proprietary expression and a new 17-year-old, this time in a pot still-shaped bottle. The latter switched to ceramic decanter and then to standard glass bottles over the course of the 1990s and was joined by a returning 10- and a 21-year-old expression.

Following the acquisition of the distillery by Ian Macleod Distillers, the core range was repackaged in 2006 although remained largely unchanged until 2013 when a 15- and 18-year-old replaced the long-serving 17-year-old. As of 2020, following the most significant rebrand since the 1980s, the core range remains spearheaded by the same age statements alongside limited batch releases of its Cask Strength edition.
