Glendalough
Glendalough is an Irish craft distillery founded in 2011 by Gary McLoughlin, Brian Fagan, Kevin Keenan, Barry Gallagher and Donal O'Gallachoir. As of 2019 it has been part of the whiskey holdings of Canadian drinks multinational, Mark Anthony Brands, who acquired Glendalough Irish Whiskey Ltd from its founders having initially invested as a minority shareholder in 2016.
The distillery became operational in 2013 when it distilled its first gin, and its first whisky spirit runs took place in 2015. However, its use of third party-produced wash promptly outlawed and no further whiskey distilling has taken place to date. The distillery does have plans to rectify this in the future, however.
Sales of the Glendalough brand began in 2013 with the launch of the distillery's gin and poitín. The first whiskies followed the next year and were bottled using casks sourced from Cooley distillery. They included a 13-year-old single malt and the Double Barrel Irish whiskey, aged in both oloroso sherry and ex-bourbon casks.
Today both of those whiskies remain part of its core range, joined by a 7-year-old single malt finished in casks used to age Black Pitts porter, and batch releases of the same whiskey finished in Japanese Mizunara oak. Various other small batch and single cask bottlings of other Irish whiskey types are also released from time to time.
