Glencadam
Glencadam is a malt distillery located in Brechin in Scotland's Highland whisky region. It was acquired by the English company, Angus Dundee Distillers, in 2003 where it is joined by Tomintoul in the company's distillery holdings. It was first established in 1825 by George Cooper and for the duration of the the 19th and 20th centuries was primarily tasked with the provision of fillings for various blends.
In particular, the distillery's malt was key to the Stewart's Cream of the Barley blend under Allied Distillers ownership, however since the turn of the 21st century Glencadam has quietly emerged as a respected single malt brand in its own right.
Although a 15-year-old distillery bottling was produced in 2000 by Allied Distillers as part of a package of other single malts of the same age, a Glencadam brand was not formally introduced to the market until 2005, two years after its acquisition by Angus Dundee Distillers. Coincidentally, its debut expression was also a 15-year-old.
The brand traded on its sole product until 2008 when the 15-year-old was repackaged with a new design, now non-chill filtered and at a higher ABV. A 10-year-old was introduced at the same time. Due to its mothballing between 2000 and 2003, the 15-year-old was later briefly discontinued, however returned to the line-up in 2019. It is joined today by a 13-year-old, non-age statements called Origin 1825, American Oak Reserve and Reserva Andalucia, and a batch-released 25-year-old.
