Coleburn
Coleburn is a lesser-seen malt distillery, originally established in Speyside in 1897. It was acquired by the Clynelish Distillery Company in 1915, which was later folder into the Distillers Company (DCL) umbrella in 1925. DCL licensed the distillery to J&G Stewart who used it for fillings for its Usher's blends, however it was one of a number in the region to be closed in the 1980s during its era of oversupply.
In 2004 the defunct operation was sold to D&M Winchester, a whisky wholesaler and cask storage company. It subsequently sold a 25-year lease for the distillery warehouses to Aceo, which operates its Murray McDavid and Aceo Spirits subsidiaries out of them. The latter is the owner of the Coleburn brand name which it uses to market blended Scotch whiskies. No Coleburn single malt brand has ever been officially bottled.
