Stitzel-Weller Distilling Co
Stitzel-Weller Distilling Co was an American whiskey company established through the merger of A. Ph. Stitzel and W.L. Weller & Sons following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. The original ownership was shared between Alex T. Farnsley, Arthur Philip Stitzel and Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle Snr. The former passed-away in 1941 and 1947, respectively, leaving the Van Winkle family as the sole heirs to the business. They eventually sold it to Somerset Importers in 1972.
The company opened the Stitzel-Weller distillery in 1935, producing a wheat mash bill bourbon for its various brands, including Old Fitzgerald, W.L. Weller, Rebel Yell and Cabin Still.
