Historic Scotland
Historic Scotland was an executive agency of the Scottish Office and later the Scottish Government, responsible for safeguarding Scotland's built heritage, and promoting its understanding and enjoyment. It was established in 1991, taking over from the Ancient Monuments Division of the Ministry of Works and the Scottish Development Department. Historic Scotland was dissolved in 2015.
Upon formation it became the owner of the Dallas Dhu distillery, which had been acquired from the Distillers Company Limited in 1986 and re-opened as a museum. The distillery museum is now run by the organisation's successor, Historic Environment Scotland.
