Hillhouse (also known as Hillhouse Capital) is a global private equity company founded by Lei Zhang in 2005 with initial seed capital provided by Yale University. The company invests money in businesses across East Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe, and across multiple different sectors.
In 2019, Hillhouse made its first investment in the Scotch whisky industry when it funded a management buyout of Loch Lomond Group from Exponent Private Equity. It became the majority shareholder in the process, however in 2020 it sold its controlling stake to Chongqing Jiangxiaobai Liquor Co.
