The Matsui

The Matsui is the brand name used by Japanese distiller, Matsui Shuzo, to market the single malt whisky it produces at its Kurayoshi distillery. The name is used to draw a distinction from the Kurayoshi-branded blended malts the company began selling two years prior, which are produced using whisky imported from Scotland. Launched in 2019, early releases would have been too young to be classed as Japanese single malt under the new regulations set out in 2021, however by that time the company had sufficient aged stock to avoid it being a problem.

The brand is available in both peated and non-peated styles, and its flagship core range expression is aged in Sakura wood casks.
