Sassaicaia 1995 Bolgheri Sassicaia

This world-renowned Super-Tuscan is one of Italy's greatest wines.  Very much a designer-wine, the concept of Marchese (Marquis) Mario Incisa della Rocchetta was to recreate a wine every bit as good as the best of Bordeaux - but in Tuscany.  Inspiration was attributed directly to the Bordeaux appellation of Graves (literally \"Gravel\" in reference to the soil), with the Marchese taking not just the main grape - Cabernet Sauvignon - from the area but also the name: Sassicaia translates as \"Stony Ground.\"

The term \"Super-Tuscan\" refers to the use of grape varieties not traditionally permitted in Tuscany - in this case being a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.  For the 1995 vintage, 100% of the wine was aged for 24 months in French oak barriques (225L barrels), two-thirds of which were new oak while only one-third of the barriques were 2nd or 3rd fill.

Bidding advice

You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.

Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum.
