Glenlivet 1968 Samaroli 25th Anniversary

A stunning 1968 vintage bottling of Glenvilet from Silvano Samaroli. This is one of two releases to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the company in 1993, the other was a  Glenfarclas under the Coilltean label.

Samaroli is perhaps Italy's most revered independent bottler of Scotch whisky. With an impeccable taste in single cask whiskies, and an eye for aesthetics (if not English spelling at times!), he is regarded by many as a visionary. Many of his bottles now occupy deserved  sports on the pantheon of whisky greats.

The 'aquarelle' watercolour on this label was painted by Silvano himself.

Glenlossie 1974 Intertrade 14 Year Old

Intertrade was established in Italy in the early 1980s by Nadi Fiori, a contemporary of Silvano Samaroli and Moon Import's Pepi Mongiardino. His company is perhaps less well known than theirs, but bottled some of the most well-regarded and collectible whiskies on the market.

Whilst overproduction and dwindling demand at the time saw distilleries were closing left, right and centre, the upshot was that these Italian bottlers had their pick of some exceptional casks, the likes of which are jealously guarded now.

This Glenlossie for example was distilled in 1974 and bottled at cask strength after 14 years in sherry cask.

Glenlivet 1971 Samaroli Sherry Wood / Aquarelles 1993

A fantastic vintage bottling of Glenlivet from Silvano Samaroli. This was bottled in 1993 as part of the Aquarelles series, along with a 1977 Ardmore, and a 1979 vintage Springbank. An 'aquarelle' is a type of watercolour painting produced using thin transparent watercolours. All of the paintings featured on these labels were produced by Silvano himself. He also used the image on this example for a 25th anniversary bottling of Glenlivet in the same year.

This was distilled in 1971 and bottled from sherry wood cask #10214 by R.W. Duthie, one of the last of their partnership with Samaroli which ended not long after due to their workload commitments with Cadenhead's.

Many of his bottles now occupy deserved sports on the pantheon of whisky greats.

Please note that the label on this bottle has a mis-print on it, stating that it was distilled in 1968. This was actually distilled as the larger red text notes, in 1986.

This 1979 bottling of Glen Grant is part of his first foray into the independent bottling scene. The series comprises of two Springbank, as well as a Macallan, Highland Park and Glenlivet, among others. They were bottled for him by Cadenhead's, in the classic brown dumpy glass of the era, using unique labels that Samaroli had designed himself.

Glenfarclas Coilltean 1977 Samaroli 25th Anniversary

A stunning 1977 vintage bottling of Glenfarclas from Silvano Samaroli. This is one of two releases to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the company in 1993, the other was a Glenlivet 1968. It became a regular feature in his series releases along with the Glen Cawdor psuedonym.

Glen Grant 1949 Sestante 33 Year Old Decanter

A well-aged vintage Glen Grant, distilled in 1949 and bottled at 33 years old.

The Sestante import company was founded in the 1970s by Ernesto Mainardi, and he bottled his first single casks under the name in 1985. Alongside his contemporary, Silvano Samaroli, Mainardi pioneered giving his customers a choice of both standard 40-46% bottlings, and cask strength releases from the same casks. Along with his other brand, Silver Seal, Mainardi's bottlings are incredibly sought after.

Mainardi was a former employee of Co. Import, Pinerolo, and was inspired to bottle these crystal decanters based on similar bottlings of Macallan that they had produced. Sestante's decanters were Edinburgh crystal, and Mainardi estimates he produced around 3500 of these over the years.
