Glen Mhor 1979 Rare Malt 22 Year Old

The Rare Malt Selection is a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005.

Distilled 1979, bottled October 2001. 

The Distillery was closed in 1983 as not profitable and demolished a few years later. Rare Malts releases from Glen Mhor are probably the only official bottlings from the distillery. 

Released at natural cask strength 60.1%.

A Duncan Taylor release of Glen Mhor distilled in December 1975 and bottled in February 2008. 

Single cask #4034 yielded 208 bottles this is bottle number 010.

Glendronach 1994 Hand Filled Single Cask

This single cask distillery exclusive Glendronach's was distilled on 7th October 1994 and bottled by hand on 1st May 2015.

A single sherry puncheon was used for this release.

Tomatin 1980 Single Cask

Distilled in 1980 then matured in single cask number 994 until the 7th of August 2008 when it was bottled. 

Matured in a refill bourbon barrel.

One of 172 bottles.

Grand Marnier Royal Celebration 1981

The primary ingredients of Champagne region Cognac and Orange are combined for this release for the 1981 Wedding of Prices Charles and Lady Diana.

Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Havana Reserve

The short lived 'Havana' Reserve 21 year old Glenfiddich, which was removed from circulation due to causing issues in the US with it's association with Cuba.

Finished in rum casks, this whisky was replaced eventually with the current 21 year old Glenfiiddich Gran Reserva.

The late Iain Banks in his search for the perfect dram in his book Raw Spirit, claimed this to be it.  

Glenury 1978 Signatory Vintage16 Year Old

A rare 1978 vintage Glenury bottled by Signatory Vintage.

Distilled on 22nd of November 1978 and bottled on January 1995 from single cask #9772 + 74.

This is bottle number 410 of 620.

Glendronach 2004 Hand Filled Single Cask

This single cask distillery exclusive Glendronach's was distilled on 29th January 2004 and bottled by hand on 9th July 2015

A single sherry puncheon was used for this release, cask number 5525.  

Glenfarclas 105 20 Year Old

Glenfarlas 105 is a popular 10 year old cask strength classic, this release has a further 10 years in the cask but still bottled at 60%.

Tomintoul 1976 Over 30 Year Old

A rare Tomintoul distilled in 1976 and bottled over 30 years later. 

Presented in a cream box with purple tartan.

Glenmorangie 1993 Burr Oak

A full proof bottling of 1993 vintage Glenmorangie that came from one of their experiments with interesting wood. This was matured in a new Burr Oak cask, a variety of oak native to the USA and Canadian borders. Distilled in 1993 and bottled in 2004, as a 21 year old.

Glenrothes 1998 Berry Brothers 14 Year Old Titanic Centenary

From Berry Brother's Website: 

\"To commemorate the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic and the heroic efforts of the Countess of Rothes who was aboard.

Every bottle in the edition is individually numbered on replica labels from the early-1900s. The bottles used replicate the Edwardian style of those lost to the depths of the Atlantic.

The Countess of Rothes, the title originating from the Speyside town where this Malt Whisky was distilled, was aboard the ship when it struck the iceberg. She took the tiller and later to the oars of life boat No. 8 during the life-threatening moments and it is said that her efforts contributed to the survival of the boats occupants. Her part in James Cameron’s film, “Titanic”, was played by Rochell Rose.

On the 17th of April 1912 Berry Bros & Co received a letter from the White Star Line detailing the loss of 69 cases of their wines and whiskies which were aboard the liner, the RMS Titanic. The ship foundered two days earlier. The letter was dated the 16th April 1912.

A framed copy of this letter has hung upon the wall of Berry Bros. & Rudd’s famous London shop at No.3 St James’s Street for many years so the company needed no reminder that the sad centenary of the disaster would one day be upon us but in spite of the overwhelming sense of tragedy there were some outstanding acts of courage and bravery.

She was given the additional title of the “Plucky Little Countess” following the 33 year old’s action. A contemporary account at the time relates “The countess is an expert oarswoman,” said Dr. Leader. “She practically took command of our boat when it was found that the seamen who had been placed at the oars could not row skilfully. Several of the women took their place with the countess at the oars and rowed in turns while the weak and unskilled stewards sat quietly in one end of the boat.”

Ledgers in the Berry Bros. & Rudd archive show that of the 24 bottles lost, 10 bottles of Berrys’ Best malt whisky were destined to be delivered to an Esmond Ovey Esq at the British Embassy in Washington. Later Sir Esmond Ovey, the gentleman in question had a glittering diplomatic career serving as an envoy to Mexico and ambassador to Moscow, Belgium, the Argentine Republic and Paraguay. Esmond was uncle to Michael Palin – where our latter-day Phileas Fogg perhaps inherited his travelling genes.\"

The whisky is a 13 year old Oloroso sherry matured single cask #015190 from Speyside distillery, Glenrothes.

Released by Nikka, this range of blended malts is named after Nikka's founder and a key member of the birth of Japanese whisky, Masataka Taketsuru.

Taketsuru 21 year old is highly acclaimed and has received many awards.

Glenlivet 21 Year Old Founder's Reserve

A distillery bottling of Glenlivet released to commemorate the 2010 distillery expansion and honouring the distillery's founding in 1824.

Released on 4th May 2010, a limited number of only 1,824 bottles became available.
