Caol Ila 1980 Douglas Laing 38 Year Old / XOP

An independent Caol Ila, distilled in September 1980 and bottled in 2018 as a 38 year old.

Old Particular is Douglas Laing's flagship label, and was launched in 2013 after their Old Malt Cask series became part of the portfolio of the newly established Hunter Laing. Xtra Old Particular is the premium version of the brand, and is reserved for casks the company considers the Laing \"family jewels.\"

Classic Cask 1981 Single Batch 17 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon

A 1981 distilled Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled in 1998. 

The Classic Cask bottlers were bottled for a company called Spirit Imports by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers at their Willett distillery. KBD have barrels from all of the major Kentucky plants in their warehouses, however their most common source was neighbouring Heaven Hill.

Caroni 2000 Velier Single Cask 17 Year Old #R4002 Heavy Full Proof / Eataly

Established in 1923 on the site of the sugar factory for which it was named, Caroni was a key ingredient of British Navy rations, where it's famous high ester 'Heavy' rums help to make up the signature flavour. Sadly, with the decline of the Trinidadian sugar industry, the Islands distillers became more and more dependent upon imported molasses, making distilling less and less economical. The writing then, was already on the wall when in 2001 the Trinidadian government sold a 49% share in the holding company to Angostura. Caroni was shuttered in 2002 and a Behemoth of flavour was lost to the world.

Thankfully, in 2004, Luca Gargano discovered the ossuary of Caroni's warehouses filled of barrels of the legendary heavy rum quietly ageing. Since then we have seen a number of outstanding releases with collectors and drinkers alike seeking to acquire one of these coveted relics.

A full proof heavy Trinidad rum, distilled at the lost Caroni distillery and fully matured on the Caribbean island.

Distilled in 2000 and aged 17 years before being bottled from single cask #R4002 (imported from Trinidad by Velier).

One of only 242 bottles produced for Eataly.

Old Rip Van Winkle 4 Year Old Handmade Bourbon 1980s

An interesting bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle, the pre-prohibition whisky brand retained by the Van Winkle family following the sale of Stitzel-Weller distillery and its associated products in 1972.

Julian Van Winkle III continued bottling Stizel-Weller produced bourbon at Hoffman distillery in Lawrenceburg in the early 1980s, renaming it Old Commonwealth. This 4 year old bourbon was bottled using Stitzel-Weller stock in the ate 1980s, some of the last before the distillery would close a few years later in 1992.

Old W.L. Weller 7 Year Old Special Reserve 1 Litre 1980s / Stitzel-Weller

An older 'Special Reserve' release of the original wheated bourbon.

This was likely distilled in the mid-1970s. The Van Winkle family were no longer owners of Stitzel-Weller distillery at this point, but were still using its stock to bottler their own eponymous brands. As we all know, that stuff itsn't half bad.

This Caol Ila was distilled on 17th April 1984 and matured in refill sherry hogshead #2758. 

Bottled for The Whisky Exchange by Signatory Vintage on 23rd September 2013.

Limited to 330 bottles, there are rumours that this is from Macallan - could the still-sealed envelope reveal its true identity?

Old Forester 2006 Birthday Bourbon 12 Year Old

Released on 2nd September annually to mark the birthday of the distilleries founder George Garvin Brown.  This is the 17th.

This Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is a 12 year old vintage-dated expression, barrelled in 2006 and bottled in 2018.

Old Forester is produced by Brown-Forman and is one of bourbon's historic brands. It was ne of the first to ever be sold by the bottle in order to ensure quality control to capitalise on the medicinal whiskey trade in the 19th century. It was even named after local Louisville physician, Dr. William Forrester (they dropped the second 'R' fro the name when he retired).

Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Old

The 10 year old Handmade Bourbon is one of the original Old Rip Van Winkle brands bottled by Julian Van Winkle III at his facility in Lawrenceburg.

With stocks beginning to run thin in the early 2000s, Van Winkle came to an agreement with the Sazerac company to move bottling and future production to Buffalo Trace, who were already using the old Stitzel-Weller recipes for the Weller brand.

All Van Winkle products have been produced at Buffalo Trace since 2002. This is a 2017 bottling.

The Rare Malt Selection is a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005.

Distilled in 1978 and bottled in April 2003 as a 24 year old.

Compass Box Tobias and the Angel

A resurrection of sorts for the old favourite, and Compass Box's first Whisky Eleuthera. Produced using the same pairing of Clynelish and Caol Ila but both at significantly greater age than was used in Eleuthera.

50.9% Clynelish aged 24 years in American oak hogshead and 49.1% Caol Ila of a \"considerably older age\" and again matured in American oak hogshead.
