Macallan Archival Series Folio 4

The 2019 and fourth edition of this limited release from Macallan was only available through an online ballot. This is unlike the previous releases which were available only at the distillery.

Folio 4 features an advertisement including a strathspey composed by James Scott Skinner (1843-1927). The ad notes that Skinner, \"The Strathspey King\", was moved to music by the lilting flavour and melting resonances of a tumbler of his favourite malt whisky - The Macallan.

The ad, small but groundbreaking, was the first instance of musical notation displayed on a page of British newspaper, The Times, and quite possibly in the advertising of any whisky.

As with the previous Folio releases, the bottle is presented with a book inside an elegant book-shaped tin box.

Many of his bottles now occupy deserved sports on the pantheon of whisky greats.

Distilled in May 1989 and matured in single sherry puncheon #8274, then bottled in April 2003.

Mortlach 25 Year Old Sestante Decanter 1980s

An excellent well-aged bottling of Mortlach, bottled in the 1980s for Sestante in Italy.

The Sestante import company was founded in the 1970s by Ernesto Mainardi, and he bottled his first single casks under the name in 1985. Alongside his contemporary, Silvano Samaroli, Mainardi pioneered giving his customers a choice of both standard 40-46% bottlings, and cask strength releases from the same casks. Along with his other brand, Silver Seal, Mainardi's bottlings are incredibly sought after.

Mainardi was a former employee of Co. Import, Pinerolo, and was inspired to bottle these crystal decanters based on similar bottlings of Macallan that they had produced. The Sestante decanters were Edinburgh crystal, and Mainardi estimates he produced around 3500 of these over the years.

Bidding advice

You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.

Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum. If someone bids above your set limit, we’ll notify you by email so you can choose whether to increase your bid.

Placing a Single Bid
Alternatively, place a single bid by selecting the button on the right side of the bidding panel. The button displays the amount needed for the next increment. For example, if the current highest bid is £50.00, the button will show "+ £55.00" (reflecting a £5.00 increment).
