This is a vintage Jura, bottled from hogshead #2778. The Animals series was bottled between 1989 and 1990, however this is one of three Japanese exclusives added in 2001.

The Isle of Jura is one of the most isolated in the Hebridean archipelago, and by all logical accounts an unusual place to build a distillery. However, the historic site was re-opened in the 1960s, in part to provide jobs to what was a declining population at the time. The rebuilding of the distillery was backed by blenders Charles Mackinlay & Co, so like Bruichladdich, despite the island being covered in peat, it produced an un-peated spirit to meet the needs of their blends. This continued into the 1990s when Whyte & Mackay became its owners, although they did eventually introduce some peated malt to their distilling, launching the Jura Superstition in 2003.

This is a 1968 vintage Bruichladdich from their De Viribus Illustribus series. Bottled for Moon Import in 1995 by Brae Dean. De Viris Illustribus is Latin for \"about famous men.\"

The last of these was Whyte & Mackay, who eventually shut it down in 1995, deeming it surplus to requirements. They sold the distillery to Murray McDavid in 2001, who launched the peated Port Charlotte and heavily-peated Octomore single malts in 2006 and 2008. A recommissioned Lomond still also now produces the popular Botanist gin there.

This Ben Nevis was matured in butt #2913 and bottled in 1988. One of 360 bottles.

1988 was Moon Import's most prolific year to date, with the Costumes series also released that year, totalling over 7000 bottles.

Ben Nevis distillery was built by \"Long\" John MacDonald in 1825, and was so popular by the end of the 19th century that at one point the estate employed over 200 people. After a series of closure and re-openings at the beginning of the 20th, it was eventually bought by former Canadian bootlegger, Joseph Hobbs. He installed a coffey still there in 1955, making Ben Nevis Scotland's first dual-operation distillery, and began to blend its malt and grain before filling it to cask. Sporadic closures again followed Hobb's death, with stability finally ensured in 1989 when it was bought by long-term customers, Nikka Whisky of Japan. Its turbulent history means there were few distillery bottlings until the launch of the 10 year old single malt in 1996, but casks had long been making their way to independent labels, and many of them are very highly praised.

Highland Park was built by David Robertson all the way back in 1798. The distillery's relationship with blenders, Robertson & Baxter, saw it acquired by Highland Distillers in 1937, who were subsequently bought by Edrington in 1999, who run it today. The modern Highland Park single malt brand was first officially bottled in the 1970s, with the release of an 8 year old age statement, but distillery bottlings first appeared around the 1950s. The look of the brand has changed many times over the years, but its cult following and popularity has never diminished. It remains one of the most recognisable single malts in the world to this day.

The Dreams series was a 1999 collaborative effort between longtime friends, Mongiardino and Samaroli. The unusually labelled series feature artworks designed by Nadia Pini and Hans Piu, and all bear Silvano Samaroli's signature printed on the capsule. Samaroli is perhaps Italy's most revered independent bottler of Scotch whisky. With an impeccable taste in single cask whiskies, and an eye for aesthetics (if not English spelling at times!), he is regarded by many as a visionary. Many of his bottles now occupy deserved sports on the pantheon of whisky greats. Mongiardino has personally informed us that Dreams was his favourite series.

Bladnoch is a Lowland distillery with a turbulent history. For the majority of which it struggled to remain open, changing hands on many occasions. Among the its former owners were Inver House and Bell's, who changed the style of the distillery's production to meet their needs, meaning there is a great variety in the flavours of both the distillery bottlings and independent releases that have appeared over the years.

This is a very rare bottling of Blair Athol, which was bottled at 21 years old as part of The Cars series. It features a Selden Road Wagon on the label. One of 245. 

Blair Athol distillery is one of Scotland's oldest, dating back into the late 18th century. Its modern story begins when it was closed down by Peter Mackenzie in 1932, and was purchased by Arthur Bell & Sons the following year. Distilling recommenced in 1949, and with Blair Athol malt at its heart, Bell's became one of the world's best-selling whiskies. Despite its importance to the blend, Blair Athol was also bottled as a single malt under the Bell's banner in the 1970s and 1980s. New owners, Guinness, were less interested in this when they took over in 1985, but their subsequent iteration, United Distillers, brought a back distillery bottling with the Flora & Fauna release. Despite its popularity, Blair Athol has yet to be bottled under its own single malt brand. Other official bottlings from the Diageo era are very rare too, however the distillery has regularly provided casks to independent companies, many of whom have bottled some exceptional releases.

Banff 1975 Gentle Noses 33 Year Old / Kick Up a Row in Germania Part 1

This was bottled by Lars-Goran Wiebers, aka \"Jack.\" He is the proprietor of the renowned Jack Wiebers Whisky World retailer in Germany, established in 1996. Since then has released a number of respected independent bottlings under labels such as the Old Train Line, Gentle Noses, The Cross Hill and Auld Distillers Alliance.

The Gentle Noses label was introduced in 2004 and is based on the story of rival families in China called Lee and Foo, who apparently quarelled over who has the better nose. The series pits Jack Wiebers fictional Jack Lee against Jumping Foo in a serie of competitions to sniff out the finest whisky. Each bottle is labelled over the capsule as the selection of one or the other.

This Banff is part one of the Kick Up a Row in Germania (Stunk in Germanien) series. A 1975 vintage, it was bottled from a bourbon cask in 2009.

A distillery almost as synonymous with fire as it is with whisky, Banff experienced four separate blazes during its chequered history, including a bombing by the Luftwaffe in 1941. The distillery operated until 1983 when it was closed by DCL (now Diageo) after a downturn in the market lead to an oversupply. The Dreams series was a 1999 collaborative effort between longtime friends, Mongiardino and Samaroli. The Silvano’s Collection label is produced by Masam, an independent bottling company run by Maryse Accorsi Samaroli, the wife of the legendary Silvano Samaroli. The Samaroli firm has been run by Antonio Bleve since 2008, however casks from Silvano's private collection have also been bottled under the Singles of Silvano Samaroli banner. These were initially supervised by the man himself, but since his death in 2017, the tradition has been lovingly continued by his wife.

Balmenach 1977 Gordon and MacPhail Spirit of Scotland / Flight No.9A 'Flying Pigs'

Flying Pigs is part of the ninth entry in the Juul's Vin & Spiritus Flying series, which has also included a Mortlach and Ardbeg, among others.

Juul's Vin & Spiritus is one of Denmark's most respected wine and spirits importer and retailers. They were established by Svend Juul in 1926 and the business has remained family run for three generations since. Located in Copenhagen, the shop boasts an impressive collection of whisky, and the contacts and strong relationships it has built over its near-100 year history have allowed it to produce a number of its own sought-after independent bottlings.

This is a 1977 vintage, single cask Balmenach. It was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for Juul's in 2009.

Balmenach is a rarely seen single malt distillery in Speyside. It was built in the early 19th century and for the majority of the 20th it was owned by DCL (now Diageo). Its distinctive style made it highly prized by blenders, and little of it was spared for official distillery bottlings, or independents for that matter. The distillery was closed in 1993 during the Scotch market downturn, but was revived in 1997 by Inver House who purchased it and resumed production. The focus today is still on provision for blends, and Inver House are yet to release a distillery bottling. It is however the source of the popular Carounn gin.

Until 2007, Benrinnes had a unique triple distillation process that resulted in a single malt highly prized by blenders for its distinct \"meaty\" quality. This is a 1983 vintage Bruichladdich from their De Viribus Illustribus series. Bottled for Moon Import in 1995 by Brae Dean. De Viris Illustribus is Latin for \"about famous men.\" One of 1050.

Like its island neighbour Bunnahabhain distillery, Bruichladdich has traditionally been an un-peated single malt, mostly owing to its requirements by the blenders who owned it. The last of these was Whyte & Mackay, who eventually shut it down in 1995, deeming it surplus to requirements. They sold the distillery to Murray McDavid in 2001, who launched the peated Port Charlotte and heavily-peated Octomore single malts in 2006 and 2008. A recommissioned Lomond still also now produces the popular Botanist gin there.

Benrinnes 1997 High Spirits 19 Year Old / Life is a Circus

Until 2007, Benrinnes had a unique triple distillation process that resulted in a single malt highly prized by blenders for its distinct \"meaty\" quality. So much so in fact, that none was spared for an official distillery bottling until United Distillers introduced the 15 year old Flora & Fauna release. Thankfully, the distillery has always featured in the catalogues of independent bottlers, giving ample opportunity to experience this sought after single malt.

This is from an unusual collection of 10 independent bottlings produced by High Spirits . Each bottle is presented with a label depicting circus acts around the world.​

High Spirits are the second bottling company started by Nadi Fiori, co-founder of the acclaimed Intertrade. Like many of his contemporaries, his bottlings are known for their artistic labels. In 2008 High Spirits bottled a series for the renowned collector, Valentino Zagatti to celebrate his 50th year of buying whisky. These and many of the earlier High Spirits releases are highly collectible.

Jura 1976 Gentle Noses 35 Year Old / Kick Up a Row in Germania Part 4

This was bottled by Lars-Goran Wiebers, aka \"Jack.\" He is the proprietor of the renowned Jack Wiebers Whisky World retailer in Germany, established in 1996. Since then has released a number of respected independent bottlings under labels such as the Old Train Line, Gentle Noses, The Cross Hill and Auld Distillers Alliance.

The Gentle Noses label was introduced in 2004 and is based on the story of rival families in China called Lee and Foo, who apparently quarelled over who has the better nose. The series pits Jack Wiebers fictional Jack Lee against Jumping Foo in a serie of competitions to sniff out the finest whisky. Each bottle is labelled over the capsule as the selection of one or the other.

This Jura is part one of the Kick Up a Row in Germania (Stunk in Germanien) series. A 1976 vintage, it was bottled from a bourbon cask in 2012.

The Isle of Jura is one of the most isolated in the Hebridean archipelago, and by all logical accounts an unusual place to build a distillery. However, the historic site was re-opened in the 1960s, in part to provide jobs to what was a declining population at the time. The rebuilding of the distillery was backed by blenders Charles Mackinlay & Co, so like Bruichladdich, despite the island being covered in peat, it produced an un-peated spirit to meet the needs of their blends. This continued into the 1990s when Whyte & Mackay became its owners, although they did eventually introduce some peated malt to their distilling, launching the Jura Superstition in 2003.

Bunnahabhain 1976 Moon Import 30th Anniversary / The Bird

Moon Import was founded by Pepi Mongiardino in 1980 and he bottled his first whisky in 1982. Always beautifully labelled, Pepi is acclaimed for designing the packaging for Moon Import bottles himself, often using images found in old books. These iconic designs, coupled with the quality of the liquid saw Moon Import steadily grow in popularity. The company is still going strong, and their early releases are some of the brightest gems in any whisky collection.

This Bunnahabhain was bottled by Moon Import to celebrate its 30th anniversary. An homage to the classic The Birds series, this is a 1976 vintage, bottled in 2010 from single hogshead #2141. One of 270.

An austere piece of Victorian architecture on the north-east coast of Islay, Bunnahabhain is a relative outsider on the island, traditionally known for producing an un-peated single malt. The majority of this was used for blending, as was its initial intended purpose. The distillery was shut for 2 years in 1982 following the market downturn of the period, and despite being revived at low production, it was eventually officially bottled as a single malt later that decade, with the self-deprecating tag-line, \"the un-pronounceable malt.\"

Highland Park 1982 Moon Import / Menses

This 1982 vintage Highland Park was bottled for Moon imports as part of the Menses range. Menses means 'months' in Latin, however the series was stopped short at just 6 bottles.
