Glenfiddich 1937 Rare Collection 64 Year Old

Glenfiddich was an early advocate of the single malt Scotch category, and their faith is rewarded today by being one of the best-selling Scotch brands in the world. The distillery was built by William Grant in 1886, distilling its first spirit on Christmas day the following year. Today it is still part of the family-owned, William Grant & Sons. They became the first distillery to actively market their single malt brand in 1963, and were the first to open their facility to visitors. Glenfiddich was an important trailblazer in the whisky industry, who's contribution cannot be forgotten. The scale of their operation today is a testament to this.

The Rare Collection from Glenfiddich was first introduced in the early 2000s and included a sought-after annual batch release of 40 year old single malt, as well as this 1937 vintage, genuinely one of the world's rarest bottles of single malt. Given that this cask was already 26 years old before the distillery made the decision to market a single malt brand, it is perhaps truly fortuitous that this was allowed to obtain such an advanced age. Or it may be simply testament to its quality that it was deemed to great to be used for any other purpose. Cask #843 was distilled in the same year that King George VI was crowned, and was bottled after a long 64 years of maturation.

When the time came for bottling, the cask produced just 61 full size bottles, and around 500 presentation packs containing 10ml samples.

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old 1st Edition

This famous bottling of Glenfiddich was bottled in 1991 and limited to an incredible 500 bottles. In the early 1990s one of these bottles officially became the most expensive bottle of whisky ever sold at auction selling for 99,999,999 Lira in an Italian charity auction.

This release was restricted to only nine casks laid down in the 1930s, one cask for each of William Grant's nine children who helped build Glenfiddich distillery into the success that it has become today. The casks, four distilled in 1937, and five in 1939, were vatted on 4th April 1990 in single cask #3034 and married for one year before being bottled on the 26th July 1991.

Each bottle was signed by former Chairman Alexander Grant Gordon, who is also the great-grandson of the company's founder.

Glenfiddich 1959 Vintage Reserve 40 Year Old #3935 / One of 6 bottles

Glenfiddich was an early advocate of the single malt Scotch category, and their faith is rewarded today by being one of the best-selling Scotch brands in the world. The distillery was built by William Grant in 1886, distilling its first spirit on Christmas day the following year. Today it is still part of the family-owned, William Grant & Sons. They became the first distillery to market their single malt brand in 1963, and were the first to open their facility to visitors. Glenfiddich was an important trailblazer in the whisky industry, who's contribution cannot be forgotten. The scale of their operation today is a testament to this.

The Vintage Reserve collection from Glenfiddich is a selection of single cask bottlings introduced in 1999. They were bottled for the best part of the next decade, eventually being replaced by the revamped Rare Collection line during a rebrand of the distillery portfolio in 2008. The series was bottled from only a few select casks per year and they are highly prized by collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Cask #3959 was distilled in 1959 and aged for 40 years. Incredibly, this is one of only six bottles produced. A incredible rarity, this was produced to celebrate William Grant & Sons’ accolade for International Wine and Spirit Competition Distiller of the Year 1999. It was served at the awards dinner held at The Guildhall, London on 1st November 1999, with three bottles poured at the dinner. This then, is one of only a possible three still in existance.

Glenfiddich was an important trailblazer in the whisky industry, who's contribution cannot be forgotten. The scale of their operation today is a testament to this.

A spectacular old example of Glenfiddich single malt whisky. This dates from a period when whisky was rarely bottled in this way, with the market favouring and dominated by blended Scotch. Efforts to market Glenfiddich as a single malt were intensified in the 1950s and 1960s, but they had been bottling it as such since the turn of the 20th century. The Glenfiddich label has change several time over the years, with the style presented here used in the period between around 1910 up until the 1950s.

This example dates from around the 1930s or 1940s, and is sealed with a cork stopper and William Grant & Sons coat of arms embossed in the capsule.

Distilled in 1965, this was matured in cask #10837, yielding 480 bottles in 2001.

Bidding advice

You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.

Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum. If someone bids above your set limit, we’ll notify you by email so you can choose whether to increase your bid.

Placing a Single Bid
Alternatively, place a single bid by selecting the button on the right side of the bidding panel. The button displays the amount needed for the next increment. For example, if the current highest bid is £50.00, the button will show "+ £55.00" (reflecting a £5.00 increment).
